Adi Ivgi (he/him) is a violinist, arranger, conductor and composer, though many have doubted all four at various points. In his youth, his playing was described as having “uncorrectable technique”, and after several unsuccessful years of study he was eventually kicked out of his youth excellence program and orchestra for “lack of progress” as well as his refusal to switch to the viola. Around the same time, his school theory teacher was recorded saying she “thinks Adi doesn’t really deserve friends.” During said period he seriously considered a career in close-up magic.
At 15, still determined to prove himself, Adi sent a string quartet composition of his for professional feedback and received an email reading: “I do not intend to comment on this piece seeing as it does not interest me whatsoever,” followed by, “I wouldn’t call this a piece of music.” Despite trying his absolute best, he went on to fail the AICF scholarship auditions for six years in a row.
throughout his many years of playing was in fact so argumentative he had to switch a staggering number os 11 violin teachers teachers. As an adult his playing was criticized for “sounding like a wood barrel” and for “playing like a know-it-all.” One university professor once told him in visible frustration, “I don’t know how to teach you”, before promptly telling him he should consider switching teachers. Adi was repeatedly told that if he doesn't "put all his eggs in one basket" he will "basically never remotely reach his full potential".
Adi has dealt with both depression and suicidal ideation, which he was very fortunate to go through with a serious help of both his close friends, who he owns his life to, as well as medical professionals.
In 2025, Adi was rejected from every summer program he applied to and spent the summer mostly watching HBomberguy videos. In his spare time, he is quite fond of pretending to study philosophy and cosmopolitics through YouTube long-form essays. He likes his toast nearly burnt and admires Leonard Bernstein mainly for allegedly being a bi icon.
